1920-1981

On the pages of this website, Bob Ufer has been most often referred to as the Ufer Group’s founder. Long-time Ann Arborites and University of Michigan alumni know Bob better as the inimitable and much-loved radio voice of University of Michigan football.

From 1945 to 1981, for 363 consecutive games, Bob Ufer announced University of Michigan football games, passionately and unapologetically rooting for the Wolverines. Bob graduated from the University of Michigan in 1943, played football as a freshman but excelled in track, setting 8 all-time Michigan varsity track records, including the world’s quarter mile record, which stood for 5 years and was a Michigan varsity record for 32 years.

Many “Uferisms” still exist, including Bob’s famous “Meeeechigan” pronunciation. Thousands of Michigan fans listen to recordings of great Michigan plays of the past to be inspired before a big game, or simply for the sheer entertainment of it. Ufer CDs can be purchased on the Bob Ufer website with proceeds supporting various educational and community projects.

The Bob Ufer Memorial Scholarship Fund, originating in 1983, provides four scholarships to seniors graduating from Pioneer and Huron High Schools who will be attending the University of Michigan and who exemplify the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence, as well as the enthusiasm and love of life, which characterized Bob Ufer’s life.

In 1997 the Ufer family established the Bob Ufer Foundation with a mission to raise funds to support youth activities and scholarships in the Ann Arbor community. As a major sponsor of the annual Superball 3-on-3 basketball tournament, the foundation has helped raise money to fund teacher grants in grades K-12 in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. At the Ufer Group we’re proud of our heritage and our founder and make it our goal to serve each of our clients with the passion and sincerity that marked his life.
